WALLA WALLA, Wash. -
Sam Mieszkowski-Lapping homered twice,
Halen Otte went yard as well and the Whitman College baseball team dominated Eastern Oregon 10-3 in midweek non-conference action on Tuesday night at Borleske Stadium.
Cole Kreber picked up the win for the Blues with two scoreless innings of work. Trevor Baker was tagged with the loss for EOU after giving up six runs in two and one-third innings.
The Mountaineers struck first with a run in the first inning off Garrett Runyan who started on the mound for the Blues. After Runyan issued back-to-back two-out walks, Mason Van Arsdell (1 H, 1 RBI) delivered an RBI single to score Joey Freitas (1 R, 1 RBI) and put EOU up early.
Spearheaded by Mieszkowski-Lapping's grand slam, the Blues responded with six runs in the bottom of the third inning. The scoring began on an RBI hit from Beck Maguire (1 H, 2 R, 2RBI) and continued when Mateus Conaway (1 H, 1 R) scored from third on an Otte (1 H, 2 R, 3 RBI) infield grounder. Then, with the bases full of Blues, Mieszkowski-Lapping broke the game open with his homerun over the left centerfield fence to give Whitman a 6-1 lead.
Whitman put the game away with four more runs in the fourth. In back-to-back at bats, Otte delivered a two-run homerun and Mieszkowski-Lapping (2 H, 2 R, 5 RBI) belted his second roundtripper to put their team up 10-1.
The Blues return to Northwest Conference action on Saturday, April 6 when they open up a three-game home series against the University of Puget Sound. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 12:00 p.m.
