Women's Tennis Opens NCAA's With Dominant Win Over Endicott

Box Score BOSTON - The Whitman College women's tennis team swept in doubles and did the same in singles en route to a dominant 5-0 win over Endicott College in round one of the NCAA Tournament hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Blues now square off against the host Engineers at 10:00 a.m. ET (7:00 a.m. PT).

Whitman won the first two doubles matches in convincing fashion. The pair of Jin Yu and Grace Carter took down Endicott's Ashley Keaveney and Olivia Martinelli at the two before Ilina Jha and Sascha Wells won their match at the three 8-1.

In a pivotal result on the No. 1 court, Arianna Castellanos and Teleya Blunt took down the Gulls Lejla Guster and Ripley Uyeda in a tiebreaker 8-7 (1) to take a commanding lead into singles.

With the match played to decision, the Blues clinched the win with results on the No. 2 and No. 5 courts. Jha topped Martinelli 6-1, 6-2 at second singles before Erica Mock sent Whitman to the second round with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the five.

Start time for Saturday's match against MIT will start at 12:00 p.m. ET (9:00 a.m. PT).
