Women's Volleyball Falls To UPS In Four Sets

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College women's volleyball team went toe-to-toe with undefeated Puget Sound, ultimately falling to the Loggers in four sets in Northwest Conference action on Friday night at the Sherwood Center. Set scores were 25-10, 21-25, 25-11, 25-21

Arina Gushchina led the Blues with a stellar double-double, notching a team-best 14 kills and adding 10 digs on defense. Addie Belt chipped in 11 kills and Bella Vickers added nine more. On the other side, Maddie Badger powered Puget Sound's offense, finishing with 19 kills and a .529 hitting percentage while Mackenzie Leith added 15 kills.

Puget Sound jumped out to an early lead, taking the first two sets 25-10 and 25-11 before Whitman (5-9, 4-3 NWC) responded with a gutsy 25-21 win in the third. However, Puget Sound sealed the match by capturing the fourth set 25-21 to remain unbeaten in conference play.

Despite a strong defensive effort and an energetic third-set rally, Whitman could not overcome Puget Sound's balanced attack and tough net presence, as the visitors finished with 10 team blocks.

The Blues return to action next week, looking to build on their resilience while chasing a key conference win.
