Women's Volleyball Dismantles PLU In Straight Sets

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College women's volleyball team delivered a dominant performance on Saturday night at the Sherwood Center, sweeping Pacific Lutheran in straight sets and setting a season high with 12 blocks while holding the Lutes to an opponent season-low hitting percentage of just .025. Set scores were 25-17, 25-21, 25-9.

The Blues (6-9, 5-3 NWC) quick work of Pacific Lutheran who entered the night just ahead of Whitman in the NWC standings but now share the third spot. The team's defensive presence at the net was outstanding, as they racked up 12 total blocks, frustrating PLU hitters and forcing numerous errors.

Setting a season-high mark with 12 blocks, Whitman consistently shut down PLU attacks and forced the Lutes into an anemic .025 hitting percentage—the lowest by a Whitman opponent all season. The imposing net play contributed to extended scoring runs and shutdown stretches in each set, especially in the third, when PLU managed just nine points.

Multiple Whitman hitters contributed to the sweep with balanced scoring and efficient attacking. The team was led by consistent performances from key contributors, turning defensive stops into transition points and maintaining control throughout the match.

Sammy Holmer led all hitters with 11 kills and Addie Belt nearly had a double double with nine kills and 12 digs. Jamie Bartok registered a match-best 13 digs with Lilli Thompson and Arina Gushchina both chipping in four blocks.

Alexis Eggert, Shaella Allen-Greggs and Julissa Pernsteiner all posted four kills to lead the Lutes.

Next up for the Blues are matches at Pacific on Friday, Oct. 17 and Willamette on Saturday Oct. 18.
