Men's Basketball Closes Road Trip With Win At Caltech

PASADENA, Calif. - The Whitman College men's basketball team shook off the frustration of back-t0-back losses and celebrated the securing of its first road win of the season with an 83-70 triumph over Caltech on Monday night.

Milos Sarenac was a force to be reckoned with, once again dominating with his fourth consecutive double-double - contributing 24 points and 10 rebounds and helping the Blues close their three-game road trip with a win.

Dorian Glogovac delivered a monster offensive performance for the Beavers with 34 points on 13-19 shooting.

In the tightly contested first half, both teams fought vigorously, ending the period deadlocked at 37-37. But as the second half unfolded, Whitman's intensity and cohesion began to tell. Their defense tightened, forcing pivotal turnovers that sparked fast breaks and easy baskets.

From the opening tip, both teams battled to establish control, but the Blues' determination was clear. By mid-second half, Whitman (3-2) had begun to pull away behind Sarenac's relentless presence inside the paint and the sharpshooting of Djordje Lazarevic, who hit key three-pointers that helped stretch the lead. The Blues' offense operated with balanced scoring, as Ali Efe Isik (15 pts, 5 stl) added valuable points to complement the efforts of Sarenac and others. The team's improved rebounding and conversion of second-chance opportunities kept the pressure on Caltech and allowed Whitman to maintain its lead down the stretch.

The game also showcased the impact of Whitman's depth, as the bench unit provided crucial minutes and energy, outscoring Caltech's reserves handsomely. Whitman's efficient shooting, especially in the paint where they tallied 54 points, combined with a defensive effort that limited Caltech's effectiveness on the perimeter, secured the comfortable margin in the final minutes. This road win, earned against a tough Caltech squad, not only halted the losing streak but also set a confident tone as the Blues prepare to head home with momentum on their side.

Whitman returns home and will host four games in December, first on Thursday, Dec. 4 against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Tipoff at the Sherwood Center is set for 6:00 p.m.
