Women's Volleyball Swept At PLU

TACOMA, Wash. - The Whitman College women's volleyball team eyed a possible cementing of a spot in next weekend's Northwest Conference Tournament, but were unable to do so in a straight-set loss at Pacific Lutheran University. Set scores were 25-20, 25-12, 25-22

As a result, the Blues are now level in the standings with Willamette, who currently owns the tiebreaker for the final tournament position after their win over Lewis & Clark.

Arina Gushchina led Whitman with 12 kills, while Addie Belt and Sammy Holmer combined for solid front-row defense and timely scoring. Jamie Bartok led Whitman with 15 digs.

The Blues struggled to generate momentum against a strong Pacific Lutheran attack. After a competitive first set where Whitman stayed within reach thanks to strong blocking and transition offense, the hosts pulled away late to take the opener 25-20. Pacific Lutheran dominated the second set, capitalizing on Whitman attack errors and maintaining control from the service line to post a lopsided 25-12 win.

Whitman showed resilience in the third, rallying from a four-point deficit to tie the score at 22 before Pacific Lutheran closed out the match 25-22.

The season will come down to Saturday's finale where Whitman will face Puget Sound in a must-win match.
