Women's Tennis Sails By Pirates

Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College women's tennis team swept in doubles and lost only once in singles en route to a dominant 6-1 win over Whitworth in Northwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Bratton Tennis Center.

The win keeps the Blues (9-2, 8-1 NWC) at the top of the league standings approaching the midway point of the second half of conference play. George Fox currently sits one half game back at 7-1 and Pacific a full game at 7-2.

The win was a key one for the Blues who won't play another conference match until March 29 when they travel to Willamette.

Nana Vang and Arianna Castellanos set the tone with a 6-0 blanking at second doubles to open the match. Jin Yu and Teleya Blunt sealed the doubles point with their 6-2 win over the Pirate team of Gracie Smyley and Faith Kert.

Erica Mock put the Blues up by two points with her 6-1, 6-3 win at the four. Ilina Jha swept Kert at the two then Sascha Wells did the same at the three over Paige Oliver to clinch the win for the Blues.

The Blues next head to California for four matches. First up will be against Salisbury on Monday, March 17 in a neutral site match played in Claremont, Calif.
