Women's Tennis Too Much For Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - In a battle of elite Northwest Conference elites, the Whitman College women's tennis team proved it was a step above with a 6-1 win over Pacific on Sunday afternoon.

The win keeps the Blues at the top of the NWC table with a 10-1 record. George Fox trails by one half game and the Boxers, after today's loss, stand a full two games behind the Blues.

The win was a vital one for the Blues who will take a late season break from conference play and head east for the Midwest Invite in Madison, Wisc. When Whitman returns it will hit the road for its final two league matches looking to secure its third straight NWC regular season title.

The Blues secured the doubles point first with a win at the three, then a victory on the No. 2 court. The No. 1 court saw Teleya Blunt and Jin Yu take down Cassidy Binder and Chloe Takahashi 6-2.

Vang dominated at the three with a 6-1, 6-1 win to put the Blues up two points, but Binder responded with her victory at the one. That would be Pacific's lone point, however, as Erica Mock and Arianna Castellanos won at the six and five, respectively, to seal the win.

The eight-team Midwest Invite takes place on April 4 & 5 and will be single elimination tournament style with consolation play. First up for the Blues in the quarterfinals is North Central on Friday, April 4 at 9:30 a.m. Pacific Time.
