NEWBERG, Ore. - A lot went right for the Blues on Saturday.
Arianna Castellanos joined
Ilina Jha as members of the century club with her 100th career win, helping the Whitman College women's tennis team to a 6-1 win at George Fox and a share of its third straight Northwest Conference title.
The Blues now hold a one-game lead over the Bruins in the standings and could secure the regular season title outright with a win at Lewis & Clark on Sunday in the regular season finale for both teams.
The Blues clinched the doubles point with wins at the one and two. Nana Vang and Castellanos cruised to a 6-2 win on the No. 2 court, but the result did not come easy at the two. Ilina Jha and Sascha Wells were pushed to a tiebreaker but prevailed 7-6 (7-2) to put their team up in the match.
Whitman won the match with three straight sweeps to get its fourth point. Jha and Castellanos won at the two and four before Baily Bell clinched with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win on the No. 6 court.
The Blues and Pioneers square off on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
