Men Tennis Tops Lewis & Clark, Secures NWC Tournament Hosting Rights

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College men's tennis team held serve. The Blues topped Puget Sound on Saturday and Lewis & Clark today, 5-2, to secure the Northwest Conference regular season title for the first time since 2019.

The title gives Whitman (15-12, 13-1 NWC) hosting rights for next weekend's Northwest Conference Tournament held in Walla Walla, Wash. The top-seeded Blues will open against Pacific on Saturday, April 19 in one semifinal and George Fox will face Lewis & Clark in the other semifinal.

Whitman did find itself in a bit of trouble after the Pioneers claimed the doubles point. Wins on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts clinched the point heading to singles.

Alexander Stage evened the match with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles, but the Pios reclaimed the lead when Noah Sutin topped Cameron Yang at the two 6-4, 6-1.

It was all Whitman from there. Lucas Huang, Braeden Thomas and Alejandro Raffo swept their matches to clinch the win for the Blues.
