WALLA WALLA, Wash. - A second straight Northwest Conference title took a major hit on Friday as the Whitman College baseball team found themselves on the wrong end of a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Linfield College.

The Blues surrendered six runs in the second inning and seven more in the seventh in their series opening loss to the Wildcats.

Wainfield led Linfield with five hits, six runs and six RBI including two doubles and a grand slam which put his team up 8-0 in only the second inning. Holm had three hits, three runs and three RBI and Porter scored a pair of runs and hit a three-run homer in the third inning to continue to bolster the lead.

The Blues did see several quality plate performances including Halen Otte (2 H, 3 R, 1 RBI) and Sam Meiszkowski-Lapping (1 H, 1 R, 2 RBI) who both homered. Tristan Buehring added two hits, two runs and three RBI.

Wyatt Adams (4-3) was tagged with loss after lasting only one inning and allowing seven earned runs.

The nightcap saw a solid outing from Oliver Brown and late inning heroics at the plate, but still the Blues coming up short this time in a one-run loss.

Outside of Otte, every Whitman hitter recorded a hit led by Buehring and Brandon Ting who both posted a pair of hits and an RBI with Buehring adding a run scored.

Brown (5-2) tossed six complete innings and gave up four runs and seven hits and struck out six.

After Linfield plated a pair in the first inning, the Wildcats scored in each of the final five innings to go up 7-3 heading into the last of the ninth. On the heels of a Jonah Chang (1 H, 1 R, 3 RBI) two-run homer, the Blues mounted a rally and had the winning run on base, but a game-ending strikeout by Buehring ended the threat.

Jake Swenson (5-3) impressed on the mound for the Wildcats. He worked seven complete innings for the win, allowing two runs on five hits with nine strikeouts.

The Blues and Wildcats close out their series on Saturday with a single game at 1:00 p.m.
