Women's Tennis Claims Third Straight NWC Tournament Title

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College tennis team cruised in doubles and saw Ilina Jha provide the match-clincher in singles to win its third straight Northwest Conference Tournament title with a 4-1 victory over Pacific on Saturday.

The win capped another stellar conference campaign for the Blues (22-3) who have now won the NWC regular season and tournament titles in three straight seasons.

The win gives the Blues the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament which will announce its tournament field next month.

Whitman had no trouble with the Boxers in doubles, winning handily on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts to take the doubles point.

The match then moved indoors for singles due to inclement weather. Jin Yu struck first with a sweep on the No. 4 court, but Cassidy Binder put the Boxers on the board with a dominant win at the one.

Whitman then clinched the title with a pair of three-set victories, first by Nana Vang at the three then Jha at two. Vang rallied from a set down and won sets two and three at love for a 2-6, 6-0, 6-0 win, and Jha lost a second-set tiebreaker before coming through with a 6-2, 7-6 (3), 6-2 victory.
