Men's Tennis Falls At George Fox

NEWBERG, Ore. - In a matchup of the top two teams in the Northwest Conference, the Whitman College men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the league season in a 4-3 defeat at George Fox on Saturday.

The result was a key one for both teams which left Whitman holding a one-game lead over the Bruins for the top spot in the conference. The Blues have three games remaining in the league season which includes Sunday's match at Linfield and next weekend's home contests against Puget Sound and Lewis & Clark.

Doubles play saw the point come down to the result on the No. 3 court. Lucas Huang and Cameron Yang squared off in an intense battle with Ikuho Ebisu and Luis Hernandez, but it was the Bruin duo who prevailed with a 7-6 (1) victory.

Huang managed to pull the Blues level with his 6-1, 6-4 win on the No. 3 singles court, but that would be the final victory for the Blues before the match was decided. Wins by the Bruins at second, fourth and fifth singles gave them the necessary four points to clinch the win.

Alexander Stage and Braeden Thomas each won three-set matches at the one and six, respectively, to close out the match.
