No. 21 Women's Tennis Beats Grinnell To Win Midwest Invite

Box Score MADISON, Wisc. - The No. 21 Whitman College women's tennis team served notice to the nation with a dominant win over a fellow top 25 opponent. The Blues took it to No. 23 Grinnell College, beating the Pioneers 7-0 in the title match of the Midwest Invite on Saturday.

The two-day, three-match tournament saw both commanding and clutch performances by the Blues (18-3). Blowout victories in the quarterfinal and championship coupled with a gritty 4-3 semifinal win showcased the ability to win on both fronts.

The Blues took care of business quickly in doubles. Teleya Blunt and Jin Yu opened with a 6-1 victory at the one and Ilina Jha and Sascha Wells clinched the point winning 6-2 at the three.

Whitman cruised to three quick singles wins and four points to clinch the victory. Wells took under an hour to beat Isabel Voinescu on the No. 5 court 6-0, 6-2. Yu finished moments later with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Nichole Heading at the four.

Erica Mock clinched the title with her 6-2, 6-0 win on the No. 6 court.

The Blues now return west for the final weekend of Northwest Conference play. They visit George Fox on Saturday and Lewis & Clark on Sunday looking to lock up their third straight NWC regular season title.
