Men's Tennis Cruises In NCAA First Round

CLEVELAND - In dominant fashion, the Whitman College men's tennis made quick work of Ohio Northern University in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament with a 5-0 win on Friday morning. The first three sub-regional rounds are being held at Carleton Courts and hosted by Case Western Reserve University.

Whitman's previous NCAA opening round win came in 2018, a year the Blues advanced to the Elite 8 before falling to top-ranked Middlebury College.

The Blues now advance to play the host CWRU Spartans on Saturday at 7:00 a.m. PT.  The winner will have a chance to advance to the Elite 8 with a victory on Sunday.

Cameron Yang and Lucas Huang kickstarted the Blues with an impressive 6-1 win at second doubles. Whitman then earned the doubles point after Alexander Stage and Noah Baker took down the Polar Bear tandem of Peyton Specht and Tyler Wood 7-5 on the No. 1 court.

Alejandro Raffo brought his A-game on the No. 6 singles court and struck first for the Blues with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kosuke Asada. Straight set wins by Artem Manov at the four, Stage at the one, and Yang at the two sealed the victory for the Blues.
