Cross Country Opens Season At Clash of the Inland Northwest

CHENEY, Wash. - The Whitman College cross country teams kicked off the season today at the Clash of the Inland Northwest and saw a handful of Blues turn in fine performances.

"Great start to our season today," said head coach Scott Shields. "Even though we were missing our first years, our returning runners ran strong. I was very pleased overall today and even more excited about the season ahead."

Ella Harrington paced the Blues in the women's 4K. She placed 40th overall (15.49.8) and ran an average mile time of 6:22.1. Payton Davies was the second Blue to cross the finish line followed by Emme Rousseau, Annika Schwartz and Rose Wickline.

Jack McManus nearly cracked the top 20 in the men's 6K after placing 22nd with a race time of 19:17.2 and a split mile time of 5:10.4. Alex Burns and Jack Rousseau finished close behind McManus and Evan Wendel and Quinny Stuart rounded out Whitman's top five finishers.

Whitman returns to action in just over three weeks when they travel to Tacoma, Wash. for the PLU Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 20.
