Women's Volleyball Takes Down Pacific In Four Sets

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College women's volleyball team made it a clean sweep of conference opening weekend, taking down Pacific University in four sets, 24-26, 25-15, 25-19, 26-24, on Saturday night at the Sherwood Center.

Despite dropping the opening set in a tightly contested battle, the Blues (3-6, 2-0 NWC) responded with poise, winning three consecutive sets to claim the match. Outside hitter Addie Belt played a pivotal role, registering match highs of 16 kills and 25 digs. Her performance anchored Whitman's attack while also providing critical defensive stability.

Whitman's momentum began to shift in the second set as the team capitalized on improved offensive efficiency and disciplined play at the net. The Blues maintained control through the third set, limiting Pacific's opportunities while building a steady lead.

Pacific was led by Emma Velcheck, who recorded 11 kills to pace the Boxers' offense. Defensively, Alyssa Cargill contributed 22 digs. The Boxers demonstrated resilience throughout the evening, particularly in the fourth set, where they extended play beyond regulation points. Ultimately, Whitman prevailed in extra points to secure the match.

Not to be outshown, Haley Pruse delivered a sterling performance with 35 assists and 10 digs.

The result underscores Whitman's balance and determination, highlighted by Belt's all-around contribution. The Blues now hit the road for an early midweek road contest at Whitworth. Whitman and Whitworth will serve it up this Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 6:00 p.m.
