Women's Soccer Plays Linfield To 1-1 Draw

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Whitman College women's soccer team fought Linfield University to a hard-earned 1-1 draw, as two unbeaten Northwest Conference teams battled through 90 intense minutes at Linfield Soccer Field on Saturday.

The result keeps the Blues (3-1-4, 2-0-2 NWC) unbeaten in league play and with just one loss overall.

Whitman struck first when Erisa Baba netted her first goal of the season in the 21st minute, set up by Emma Foley. The Blues created several strong chances as Baba led the attack with four shots, three of them on target. Linfield responded with pressure but was unable to find the back of the net in the first half. Both squads tested opposing goalkeepers and defensive lines, with Whitman tallying five shots and Linfield matching that output.

As play resumed, Linfield increased its intensity and peppered the Whitman net with eight more shots in the second half. In the 67th minute, Linfield's Jenna Stanley drew the game level on a feed from Mira Curtez.

Goalkeeper Alexa Fritz for Linfield and Whitman's Seanee Still each had to make key saves down the stretch, preserving the tie for their teams. Still and Eleanor Johnson each played a half in goal for the Blues.

The Blues are next in action at Lewis & Clark on Friday, Oct. 3 at 5:00 p.m.
