Vang, Wells Advance On Day 2 of ITAs

NEWBERG, Ore. - The Whitman College women's tennis team continued to excel in the ITA Fall Northwest Regional Championship as one Blues doubles pair and two Blues singles players remained in the championship bracket with victories on Saturday.

Doubles action saw Sascha Wells and Nana Vang deliver convincing wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals, both by 8-3 scores. They will square off in the championship match on Sunday against the Pacific University pair of Chloe Takahashi and Stella Nishimura, the seeded team on the bottom half of the bracket.

The singles tournament has the chance to see an all-Whitman final. Vang, in what has become a stellar weekend for her, won both matches on Saturday to advance to the semifinals. She cruised in the round of 16 before earning a hard-fought three-set victory over Nishimura in the quarters. Renata Rosell had a similar day, cruising in the round of 16 but having to rally for a three-set win in the quarters.

Sunday's singles semifinals begin at 9:00 a.m. with the doubles championship set for 1:00 p.m.
