Vang, Wells, Lovato Win Titles At ITA's

NEWBERG, Ore. - The Whitman College women's tennis team concluded an excellent weekend of action at the ITA Fall Northwest Regional Championship. Nana Vang won the singles title and teamed up with Sascha Wells for a doubles crown, and Leah Lovato won the B draw consolation championship.

"It was an incredible tournament by the whole team!," said head coach John Hein. "With five new players it was incredible to see the team come together quickly and fight together for every match."

The titles by Vang and Wells earned them ITA All-American status and qualified them for the ITA Cup held next month in Rome, Ga.

Vang was slated to face Whitman teammate Renata Rosell in the final after rallying from a set down in the semifinals. Rosell, who rallied from a set down in the semifinals as well, powered through an injury during the the match but was unable to compete against Vang for the title.

Vang then won her second crown of the tournament when her and Wells took down Pacific's Chloe Takahashi and Stella Nishimura 6-4, 7-6 (3).

The ITA Cup takes place at the Rome Tennis Center from Oct. 16-19.
