Men's Basketball Upended At Home Against Willamette

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College men's basketball team scratched and clawed but ultimately came up short in a 58-55 loss to Willamette in Northwest Conference action on Saturday night at the Sherwood Center.

Milos Sarenac led the Blues (6-5, 1-1 NWC) with a team-high 16 points, providing steady offense in a back-and-forth affair. Ali Efe Isik anchored Whitman on the boards, pulling down a game-best 10 rebounds as the Blues outworked Willamette inside.

Tanner Overby led the Bearcats with a game-high 23 points, headlining a team effort that converted 25 points off 30 Whitman turnovers, several key down the stretch.

Both teams battled through a defensive struggle that saw multiple lead changes and key stops down the stretch. Despite Whitman's efforts to rally late, Willamette's timely free throws in the closing seconds sealed the home victory.

Ken Higgins chipped in 13 points and Jacob Fotu added 12 more.

The Blues conclude their early conference homestand on Tuesday, Jan. 6 against Whitworth. Tipoff at the Sherwood Center is set for 7:30 p.m.
