Distance Track Concludes Whitman Indoor Invite

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitman College track and field teams opened their spring campaign with a strong showing at the Whitworth Indoor Invite, highlighted by standout distance efforts and relay performances against a deep regional field.​

On the men's side, senior Danny Steinberg led a dominant group effort in the 3000m, taking third in 9:12.04 to pace a pack of Blues runners in the top 10. He was followed closely by Quinny Stuart in sixth at 9:13.11 and first-year Alex Yee in seventh at 9:14.13, giving Whitman three finishers inside the top seven. First-year Sam Emert clocked 9:33.17 for 16th, while Theo Lydgate (9:35.49, 18th) and senior Paul Florence (personal-record 9:47.10, 22nd) added quality depth, with Jackson Garrison crossing in 10:48.05 for 31st.​


The women's distance squad answered with a pair of top-five finishes in the 3000m, as sophomore Lily Kamila placed fourth in 11:49.47 and sophomore Emme Rousseau finished just behind in fifth at 11:56.50. The performance marked a strong early-season statement for the Blues' women's distance group, setting a competitive tone for the spring.​


Whitman's relay crews also impressed in their season debut. The men's 4x800m relay delivered a runner-up finish in 8:29.90 behind the quartet of A. Burns, Steinberg, Stuart, and J. McManus. Another men's 4x800m squad of Ross Werner, Emert, Yee, and T. Crockett claimed third in 8:50.80, giving Whitman two of the top three relays in the event. On the women's side, the 4x800m relay of P. Davies, Kamila, Rousseau, and E. Harrington raced to third place in 10:39.60 to cap the day's relay action.​


In the mid-distance events, the women's 800m crew gained valuable early-season reps, led by first-year Lucia Shiffler in 2:33.82 for 34th. Classmate Lucy Luepker followed in 2:37.02 for 37th, and sophomore Allie Fredrickson crossed in 2:56.13 for 44th as the group logged its first official marks of the spring. In the men's sprints, sophomore Ross Werner posted a time of 21.3.08 in his heat, while sophomore Toren Christensen recorded a personal-record 22.1.37 in his section to close out Whitman's day on the track.
