Women's Tennis Too Much For Pacific

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Whitman College women's tennis team rolled to a 6–1 victory over Pacific University in Northwest Conference action Sunday morning at Bratton Tennis Center. The Blues took two of three doubles courts to secure the opening point, then dominated singles with wins on five of six courts to close out the match.

Whitman set the tone in doubles behind a convincing win from Renata Rosell and Nana Vang at No. 1, as the Blues' top tandem blanked Pacific's Chloe Takahashi and Stella Nishimura, 6–0. At No. 3 doubles, Jules Thompson and Julia Longpre delivered another strong performance in a 6–3 victory, clinching the doubles point for Whitman. Pacific grabbed its lone win of the day at No. 2, where Henleigh Elder and Tiara Yeung earned a 6–4 decision over Sascha Wells and Gloria Lau.

In singles, Whitman quickly extended its lead when Lau powered to a 6–0, 6–4 win over Morgan Wagoner on court six. Longpre followed with a 6–3, 6–1 victory over Brooke Curtis at No. 4, pushing the team score to 3–1 in favor of the Blues. Bailey Bell then locked up the team win with a straight‑set triumph on court five, downing Mia Yamaguchi 6–2, 6–2.

The top of the lineup added two more quality results to cap the day. At No. 2 singles, Nishimura struck first for Pacific with a 6–0 opening set, but Rosell answered and ultimately fell 0–6, 6–3, 2–6 in a three‑set battle. On court one, Vang outlasted Takahashi in one of the tightest matches of the afternoon, earning a 6–3, 7–6 decision after taking the second‑set tiebreak 11–9. Wells completed the 6–1 final with a gritty comeback on court three, rallying past Elder 7–6, 7–6 after dropping the first set 6–1.

The Blues are on the road next weekend for the first time in conference play when they visit George Fox and Linfield.
