Men's Tennis Takes Down Whitworth

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Whitman College men's tennis team stayed perfect in Northwest Conference play, rolling past Whitworth 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Bratton Tennis Courts.

Whitman (8-1, 8-0 NWC) seized early control by taking two of three doubles courts to grab the opening point. At the top spot, Alexander Stage and Niklas Jensen delivered a dominant 6-1 win over Ryan Ashley and Henry Preacher, while the No. 3 duo of Hanri Luo and Guillermo Rodriguez cruised to a 6-2 victory to secure the lead heading into singles. Whitworth's lone doubles win came at No. 2, where Matt Froslan and Matt Hossack topped Artem Manov and Charles Rush, 6-3.

In singles, the Blues' top three made quick work to put the match out of reach. Stage set the tone at No. 1 with a composed 6-2, 7-5 win over Matthew Morrison, and Jensen followed with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Preacher on court two. Manov then closed out a straight-sets win at No. 3, 6-2, 6-3 over Ashley, to seal the match.

Whitman added one more point at the bottom of the lineup behind Luo, who capped a strong day with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Hossack at No. 6 singles.

The Blues take to the road next week for a handful of non-conference matches. First up is Chapman on Tuesday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m.
