LEXINGTON, Va. – The 32nd-ranked Whitman College women's tennis team opened its spring break trip with a 7-0 loss at No. 15 Washington and Lee on Tuesday afternoon at the Duchossois Tennis Center.

Whitman (10-3) earned its highlight in first doubles, where the nationally ranked pair Renata Rosell and Nana Vang posted a 6-3 win over the Generals' top team of Sarah Donnelly and Lauren Long. Washington and Lee answered with wins at the second and third doubles spots to secure the opening point.

In singles, Vang fell 6-2, 6-2 to Long at the top position, and Rosell dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Donnelly at No. 2 as the Generals controlled the upper half of the lineup. Sascha Wells and Julia Longpre battled in straight-set losses at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, while WLU closed out the sweep with wins at the fifth and sixth spots.

The tightest match came at No. 5 singles, where Bailey Bell took the first set 6-2 before eventually falling in an 11-9 super tiebreak to Margarette Berdy.

With their one game in Lexington in the books, the Blues will now set up shop in Newport News for three matches, first at Christopher Newport on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Pacific Time.
