Men's Tennis Blanks Willamette

SALEM, Ore. – The Whitman College men's tennis team rolled to a 7-0 sweep of Willamette in Northwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon, sweeping all three doubles courts and all six singles lines without dropping a match.

Whitman set the tone in doubles, racing out to a 1-0 lead in the team score with a trio of convincing wins. At the top spot, Alexander Stage and Niklas Jensen posted a 6–2 victory over AJ Avansino and Hudson Snyder, while Artem Manov and Charles Rush were dominant in a 6–1 win at No. 2 against Luca Casano and Sohnosuke Sakaguchi. Guillermo Rodriguez and Hanri Luo completed the sweep with a 6–3 decision at No. 3 over Baily Livengood and Jake Bronson.

The Blues carried that momentum into singles and closed out the Bearcats with a mix of straight‑set wins and one three‑setter in the middle of the lineup. Stage was clinical at No. 1, earning a 6–3, 6–2 win over Avansino to push the dual score to 2–0. Jensen followed at No. 2 with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Bronson to give Whitman a stranglehold on the match.

In the heart of the order, Manov bounced back from a slow start at No. 3, rallying past Sakaguchi 3–6, 6–1, 6–4 to extend the lead. Rodriguez added another gritty result at No. 4, outlasting Snyder 7–6, 8–6, 6–1 in a marathon that featured two tiebreak-style sets before he pulled away in the third. At the bottom of the lineup, Whitman slammed the door as Henry Kaufman cruised 6–1, 6–1 over Jack Hally on court five and Dane Harrington capped the shutout with a 6–0, 6–0 win over Casano at No. 6.

The Blues, now winners of six straight and perfect in conference play, close out the weekend on Sunday at Puget Sound. Play begins at 11:00 a.m.
