Men's Tennis Blanks Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. — The Whitman College men's tennis team continued its perfect march through Northwest Conference play Sunday, rolling past Puget Sound 7-0 in a road sweep that featured straight-set wins across the board.

Whitman grabbed control early by taking two of three doubles courts, with Guillermo Rodriguez and Hanri Luo cruising to a 6-0 win at No. 3 to secure the opening point. At No. 2 doubles, Charles Rush and Artem Manov came through in a tight battle, edging Tyler Blixt and Gavin Dille 7-6(5). The Loggers' lone doubles win came at the top spot, where Niklas Jensen and Alexander Stage fell 6-3 to Jason Rowe and Jackson Stumpf.

Once the match turned to singles, Whitman's depth took over. Stage started the run at No. 1 with a composed 6-3, 6-3 victory over Rowe. Jensen backed that up on the next court, dispatching Stumpf 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. Manov then pushed the margin to 4-0, rolling past Dille 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.

Rodriguez and Rush kept the shutout intact in the middle of the lineup. Rodriguez posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Vincent Upingco at No. 4 singles, while Rush dropped just three games in a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Reef Gelder on court five. Luo put the finishing touches on the sweep, dominating Sebastian Silverstein 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.

The Blues will look to extend their conference streak when they return to action next week at home against Whitworth on Saturday, March 14.
