Blues Cruise Past Willamette To Clinch NWC Title

SALEM, Ore. — The Whitman College women's tennis team left no doubt about its place atop the Northwest Conference, rolling past Willamette 7–0 on Saturday to secure its fourth straight NWC regular season title and the right to host next weekend's conference tournament.

Whitman seized control from the opening serve with a commanding performance in doubles. At the top spot, Nana Vang and Renata Rosell attacked returns early and dictated play in a 6–2 win over Alexa de Crinis and Reese Beyrouty. On the next court, Jules Thompson and Bailey Bell matched that intensity, using aggressive net play to post a 6–3 victory against Eva Lief and Sofia Spencer. The Blues completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles, where Michelle Deng and Leah Lovato were steady from start to finish in a 6–2 decision over Alicia Sola and Grace O'Steen.

With the doubles point in hand and momentum clearly on their side, the Blues turned the match into a showcase of depth in singles. At No. 1, Vang was clinical, dropping just one game in a 6–0, 6–1 win over de Crinis. Bell was equally dominant at No. 2, cruising past Beyrouty by the same 6–0, 6–1 score line to push Whitman firmly toward the finish.

Further down the lineup, Whitman closed the door with authority. Natalie Cruz controlled play at No. 5 singles, dropping only three games in a 6–1, 6–2 win over Katie Briggs. Deng turned in a composed performance at the six in a 6–1, 6–1 decision against Sola.

With another regular season title secured and the conference tournament now set to run through Whitman's home courts, the Blues will enter next weekend exactly where they wanted to be: at home, in form, and still setting the standard in the Northwest Conference. Dates, times and matchups will be forthcoming.
