Blues Sweep Loggers On Senior Day

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Whitman College men's tennis team closed out its regular season in style Sunday, sweeping the University of Puget Sound 7-0 on senior day at the Whitman Tennis Courts.

Prior to the match the Blues recognized seniors Charles Rush, William Lanstra, Artem Manov and Gunner Wollar for their years of service to Whitman tennis.

Whitman set the tone early in doubles, racing out to a 1-0 lead behind convincing wins on courts two and three before clinching the sweep at the top spot. Rush and Manov delivered the first blow with a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles over Tyler Blixt and Gavin Dille, then the pairing of Woller and Lanstra matched that score line with a 6-1 win at No. 3 against Sam Lowery and Aidan Kresko.

With the point already secured, seniors Niklas Jensen and Alexander Stage finished off a 6-4 decision over Jason Rowe and Jackson Stumpf at No. 1 doubles to send Whitman into singles with all the momentum.

That energy carried straight into singles, where the Blues won all six courts in straight sets to put an emphatic cap on the afternoon. Jensen made quick work of Rowe at No. 1, posting a 6-2, 6-3 win, Manov followed with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 result over Dille on court two, and Rush mirrored that effort at No. 3, rolling past Reef Gelder 6-2, 6-0 as Whitman rolled.

The bottom half of the lineup completed the senior day sweep. Lanstra was steady throughout a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4 over Sebastian Silverstein, while Woller overpowered Lowery 6-1, 6-2 at the fifth spot. On court six, Cooper Wyngarden completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Blixt.

With the regular season now complete, the Blues head into next weekend's NWC Tournament which begins Friday on the Whitman College campus. Times and opponents to be announced this week.
