Women's Tennis Tops Whitworth; Wins Second Straight NWC Tourney Title

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Whitman College women's tennis team is once again on top of the Northwest Conference, riding a wave of momentum and belief to its second straight league tournament title with a 4-0 triumph over Whitworth on Sunday at the Whitman Tennis Courts.

With the victory, the Blues close out the day at 18-5 overall, while Whitworth finishes its strong season at 15-7. On a championship stage, Whitman put together the kind of complete performance that reflects months of hard work, depth throughout the lineup and a steady confidence under pressure.

The tone was set early in doubles. At No. 2, Gloria Lau and Sascha Wells wasted no time in getting Whitman on the board, powering to a 6-1 win over Turner-Esposito and Paige Oliver to give the Blues an immediate spark. Moments later, the top-flight duo of Nana Vang and Renata Rosell clinched the doubles point with a composed 6-3 victory against Whitworth's Faith Kert and Clara Todd at No. 1, sending Whitman into singles with a 1-0 lead and plenty of energy.

In singles, Whitman's veterans rose to the occasion. Vang delivered a statement win at No. 1, rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Oliver to double the team's lead and keep the momentum squarely on the Whitman side. Bell followed with another decisive performance at No. 5 singles, posting a 6-3, 6-0 win over Corbett to push Whitman within one point of the conference crown.

The clincher came from Lau at No. 6, as she capped the championship with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Josie Kellogg, setting off a celebration as the Blues officially locked up the 4-0 victory and another NWC Tournament title.

With the title, the Blues locked up the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament who will announcement its tournament field next month.
