McManus, Davies Highlight Historic Day For Whitman At NWC Championship

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Whitman College distance track team put five men and three women on the track in the 10,000 meters, with Jack McManus and Payton Davies leading the way on the opening day of the 2026 Northwest Conference Track & Field Championships hosted by Whitworth University..

McManus delivered the top finish of the night for the Blues, taking second place with a time of 31:31.95. He sat in the lead group throughout and closed hard over the final kilometer to finish just behind Whitworth's London Haley.

Whitman stacked the field with depth behind McManus. Danny Steinberg crossed in 32:22.75 for fifth place and a personal record, while Jack Rousseau and Quinny Stuart finished back-to-back in 33:27.31 and 33:27.42, respectively, to take 11th and 12th. Turner Crockett added a 34:05.07 in 15th, and Theo Lydgate clocked 35:03.44 in 17th as the Blues placed six runners in the top 17 for their best ever 10,000 meter team performance at the NWC Championship.

The women's side also saw a historically great performance from the Blues. Davies capped a steady, grinding effort with an eighth-place finish in 39:38.69. Her time marked a personal best and continued a spring in which she has steadily lowered her mark at the distance.

Whitman also sent a trio of underclass runners into the women's 10,000. Emme Rousseau crossed in 42:13.09 for 15th, followed by Lily Kamila in 42:30.88 for 17th for the top 20 finishes. Addyson Puri and Lucia Shiffler also ran PRs in the 400 and 800 respectively.

The second and final day of the Championship continues Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
