WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Whitman College kept five entries alive in the winners bracket at the ITA Men's Far West Regional Tennis Championships, advancing two players in singles and three teams in doubles to Saturday's round of 16.

The championships are being hosted by Whitman College on the sites of the Whitman Tennis Courts, Bratton Tennis Center and Walla Walla High School.

Niclas Jensen and Hassan Ammar each received a first-round bye before winning their opening singles matches in straight sets. The victories put both Whitman players in Saturday's round of 16 singles draw without dropping a set in their first matches of the tournament.

Jensen and Ammar also advanced together in doubles, giving each a place in both the singles and doubles rounds of 16. Whitman's other doubles teams to advance were Hanri Luo and Henry Kaufman, and Ben French and Drew Harris.

Tournament play resumes Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
