NEWBERG, Ore. -- Jade Anderson scored her third goal in as many matches and Whitman held on for a 1-0 road victory at George Fox today in Northwest Conference women's soccer action, giving the Missionaries a third-straight victory in their final regular season contest of 2013.

The Missionaries finish 7-9 in conference, their best finish since 2009 when they went 7-8-1, and a significant improvement over last season's 4-9-1 mark. Their final regular season record of 11-9 is their best showing since 2008 when they finished 11-7-1 and is a six win improvement over last year.

Said Whitman head coach Heather Cato after the match, "The team played really well today and we have left the senior class with a great season and great memories. We came into the season strong, competed all year, lost some close ones, but ended the season strong."

The Bruins end the year with a conference record of 1-13-1 and an overall mark of 3-15-1.

Anderson's fourth goal of the season came in the 22nd minute. Kelsey Roehner took a corner kick that was then centered by Sara Sonnenblick. Anderson, who had the game-winner in Whitman's 1-0 victory over Willamette on Sunday, put the pass into the back of the net.

The Missionaries, then, completely shut down George Fox the rest of the way. Whitman allowed only one shot the entire match. "The backs played flawless today, said Cato.

Meanwhile, the Missionaries took 20 shots -- 11 in the first half, 9 in the second. Nine of them were on frame, two each from Hallie Swan and Roehner. Bruin goalie Alyssa Montero kept George Fox in the match by making 8 saves.

With the win, the Missionaries are temporarily alone in fifth-place, one point ahead of Pacific University who plays tomorrow against Willamette.
