WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Quick work in doubles and even quicker action in singles clinched another win for Whitman College's women's tennis team as the Missionaries downed visiting Pacific (Ore.) University, 8-1, in a Northwest Conference match-up played at the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center. The victory was the second of the weekend for 29th-ranked Whitman (3-2, 3-0 NWC) while the Boxers (1-2, 0-2) fell for the second time in two days.
Erin Bell and
Katrina Allick pounded out a resounding 8-1 win in No. 2 doubles for Whitman's first point of the day. The second point came at 3-doubles where
Jenna Dobrin and
Allie Wallin ran off an easy 8-3 victory over Pacific's Carlee Rhodaback and Kanani Kea. The 1's, Courtney and
Morgan Lawless, finished off doubles for the M's with a tough 8-6 win to move Whitman into singles play with a 3-0 advantage.
It didn't take long to clinch the deciding fifth point once the singles players hit the courts. Wallin smoked Pacific's Sydney Smith at No. 3 without losing a game, 6-0 and 6-0, and soon after Bell finished off Mai Kobayashi in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-3, at No. 4 to clinch the match victory.
Dobrin at 1-singles,
Alexandra Sigouin at No. 5 and
Jenna Gilbert at 6 each completed straight-set wins for Whitman's final three points.
