WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The last full weekend of Northwest Conference women's tennis Saturday and Sunday brings alumnae and program supporters to campus for No. 25 Whitman College's Family/Alumnae/Senior weekend.
The Missionaries (9-7, 6-1 NWC) will battle No. 20 Lewis & Clark College (11-2, 7-0) Saturday morning for the top spot on the conference ladder, then get George Fox University's (9-6, 4-2) best shot Sunday morning. Lewis & Clark is rated third in the March 31 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) West Region rankings with Whitman at No. 6 and Fox at No. 16 in the West. The trio make up three of the top four spots in the NWC standings.
The gravity of Saturday's match -- a rematch of last spring's conference tournament final, won by Whitman -- is bringing supporters of the program back to campus to cheer on the Whitties, and therefore presented itself as an opportune weekend to celebrate the graduating senior class of
Jenna Dobrin and
Katrina Allick.
Saturday will be all business as the Whitties seek revenge for a 7-2 loss on the Pioneers' home courts in mid-February. The scoring margin at that match could well have been different as five of the six singles matches went to three sets. Doubles action for the national-level match is slated for a 10 a.m. start.
Sunday's match against the Bruins brings with it most of the Senior Weekend festivities including senior recognition before the match begins at 10 a.m.
