ROME, Ga. Hot off their ITA Regional doubles championship two weeks prior, Whitman's Hanna Greenberg and Andrea Gu trekked off to the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia, for the women's 2017 ITA Small College Oracle Cup. The Blues ITA All-Americans were slotted into Wednesday's play-in match but fell out of the tournament after a 6-3, 6-2 defeat at the hands of Kate Daugherty and Esther Bowers of Southwestern (Texas) University (SU).

Daugherty and Bowers held serve to open the match but the Whitman pairing matched to square the match at 1-1.

An SU hold pushed the Pirates tandem in front again, and a break of the Whitman serve increased their advantage.

Greenberg and Gu broke back in the next game but Daugherty and Bowers would hold off the Whitman twosome for the opening-set victory.

Set number two followed the same script through the first three games but Daugherty and Bowers inched ahead, 4-1, with a break and a hold to take command before finishing off the match victory.

Daugherty and Bowers advance into the quarterfinal round where they will take on the bracket's No. 4 seed from Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University.

Greenberg and Gu -- 2017 All-Northwest Conference performers last spring -- earned ITA all-American status and a berth in the Small College Oracle Cup by winning the doubles championship at the ITA Northwest Regional two weekends prior.
