McMINNVILLE, Ore. - In the first major league event of the season, the Whitman College men's and women's golf teams closed Day 1 of the Northwest Conference Fall Classic in solid standing on both the team and individual leaderboards.

The Classic, hosted by Linfield at the Michelbrook Country Club, counts toward 25% of the overall conference standings which include results from the NWC Spring Classic and NWC Championship.

Ellena Jeong and Cindy Luo led the Blues in the women's competition, both tied for third in the individual leaderboard after carding a two over 74. The team currently sits two strokes behind Whitworth for second in the standings.

The men's squad only featured one golfer in the top 10 but solid scores all around have landed them tied for third in the team standings with George Fox. Mason Remington closed the first 18 holes tied for 10th on the individual leaderboard after firing a one under 71. Eshan Singh currently sits in a tie for 15th after shooting an even par.

The Classic concludes on Sunday, Oct. 15.
