Solid Finish For Blues At Whitworth Invitational

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. - Four sub-par rounds was not enough for the Whitman men's golf team on Monday at the Whitworth Men's Fall Invitational. Alex Knox, Mason Remington, Dawson Fish and Ben Sweet all shot one under par 71s at MeadowWood Golf Course, posting a -4 284 for the second round of the two-day tournament. After a +4 round on Saturday at Liberty Lake Golf Course, the Blues finished the tournament at even par. Whitworth University, after posting a two over par round on day one, blistered the field with a -16 round of 272 on Monday to post a two day total of 554 for an eight shot victory over Willamette University, who also went low on the final day with a eight under par round of 280. Whitman placed third, nine shots ahead of Linfield University in the eight team field.
Alex Knox led the Blues with a 69-71: 140, good for 6th place at two under par. First year players Mason Remington and Dawson Fish finished tied for 11th with identical 71-71: 142 totals, finishing at even par. Ben Sweet finished 17th with rounds of 73-71: 144. Whitman's non-counting score was posted by Jack Garnsey at 79-77: 156. Playing as an individual, Eshan Singh had his best outing of the season, shooting 69-74: 143 for 14th on the leaderboard. Whitman's other two individuals, Nathan Nemali and Mussa Guzha, shot 77-76 and 85-77 respectively.
This invitational was the final tune-up for the Northwest Conference Fall Classic, which determines the league standing for the fall season. Teams play at Michelbook Country Club in McMinnville Or next weekend, Sat-Sun October 21 and 22.
