Women's Soccer Rallies To Top Lewis & Clark

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Whitman College women's soccer team trailed at halftime but scored two in the second half to take down Lewis & Clark 2-1 in Northwest Conference action on Saturday.
 
"That was an incredible performance, said coach Michelle Voiland."The team stuck together, remained cool and took control of the second half. Two outstanding goals, excellent physicality and mental toughness. A job well done."

Virginia Hunt and Leah Barnes notched the two second-half goals to lead the Blues (10-5-2, 9-4-2 NWC) to the win which is the second-most wins in program history and most since 1984

Barnes' equalizer came in the 61st minute. With Chaney Heinbaugh and Lindsay Honhart both involved in the play and credited with assists, Barnes finished low and inside the right post past Sophia Young in net for the Pios (4-11-3, 3-8-3 NWC).

Hunt's gamewinner came in the 70th minute after Anika Patel played her a ball which she also finished low and inside the right post.

Lewis & Clark struck first with a goal in the 29th minute. Celeste Schreifels beat Hannah Hagler in net for the Blues to put the Pios up.

Both keepers played a full 90 minutes. Hagler posted four saves and Young recorded five saves.

Whitman will look to share a piece of history with its season finale on Sunday, Nov. 5 at George Fox., Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m.
