Men's Golf Holds Top Spot, Women Fourth At NWC Spring Classic

POST FALLS, Idaho - The Northwest Conference Spring Classic got underway today and closed with a fine Day 1 showing by both the Whitman College men's and women's golf teams. In a day filled with sprinkles of hail and snow and wind guests, the men's squad closed the opening 18 holes at the top of the team leaderboard with the women's team holding strong at fourth. The two-day event is being hosted by Whitworth University at the The Links Golf Course.

Men's Competition
The men's squad locked in and finished the day with a commanding eight stroke lead ahead of Whitworth who currently sits at second.

Tom Hoyne had a stellar day which landed him at the top of the individual leaderboard after 18 holes. He fired a three under 69, a full four strokes better than Linfield's Trevor Price.

Alexander Knox and Max Ray-Keil also finished in the top 10. Both carded a four over 76 good for a tie for seventh place. 

Whitman's other two competitors in Parker Krovisky and Ben Sweet placed in a tie for 10th making all five Whitman participants landing in the top 10 after Day 1. 

Women's Competition
Cindy Luo led the Blues with an 83 and is tied for 4th place. She birdied two of the last three holes on the front nine to turn in four over par.

Katya Kurkoski sits in a tie for 7th place after shooting 85.

Pavita Sidhu birdied three holes on the front nine and made the turn at one over par and also birdied the last hole to shoot 87 and tie for 13th.

Macy Hampton shot a 103, her lowest collegiate round, to complete Whitman's team score. 

Beatrice Archer had to withdraw due to illness.

The Classic concludes on Sunday.
