Men's Golf Takes Second at Golfweek October Classic

Destin, Fla. - Eighth-ranked Whitman College rallied in the final round to finish second at the Golfweek October Classic, which wrapped up Tuesday after two days of play.

The Blues finished the 54-hole tournament at 11-over par, three strokes behind champion and sixth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan (+8). Whitman edged No. 14 Oglethorpe by one stroke for second place. Hampden-Sydney was fourth at 15-over.

Whitman opened Monday with a 7-over first round and followed with a 2-over second round. That left the Blues tied for fourth, four strokes off the lead, entering Tuesday's final round. Whitman then posted another 2-over round, the lowest final-round score among the top 10 teams, to climb two spots. The Blues finished ahead of several ranked teams, including No. 3 Huntingdon and No. 10 UW-Eau Claire, who tied for fifth at 20-over.

Grady Brown led Whitman with an even-par total, good for a tie for eighth. Brown, ranked 11th nationally, shot 1-over in the first round, a 2-under in the second round and 1-over in the final round.

Isaac Elaimy and Thomas Skinner both finished at 1-over par, tied for 11th. Elaimy shot par in each of his first two rounds and finished with a 1-over. Skinner opened with an even-par round, shot 1-over in the second round and closed with another even-par round.

Hampden-Sydney's Til Wagner won the individual title at 4-under. Oglethorpe's Jackson Hiller was one stroke back at 3-under.
