WALLA WALLA, Wash. -
Jin Yu won at first doubles then swept at singles to pace the Whitman College women's tennis team to an impressive 6-3 win over Colorado College on Saturday afternoon at the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center.
The Blues (3-1) took a solid lead with wins in the first two doubles results. Yu and Teleya Blunt opened with an 8-4 win on the No. 1 court, then the team of Grace Carter and Jules Thompson edged the Tiger pair of Emmy Winter and Marina Seidl, 8-5, at the two. Colorado College salvaged a point with a win at the three but it was still the Blues who took a 2-1 lead into singles.
Erica Mock and Illina Jha dominated to put Whitman on the brink of victory. Mock lost just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win at the six before Jha swept Christina Heffron at the three 6-1, 6-3.
Teleya Blunt went up a set on the No. 1 court but couldn't seal the win as she fell 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Yu provided the match-clincher moment's later on the No. 2 court. She won at love in set one, then won a set two tiebreaker en route to a 6-0, 7-6 (2) sweep over Avery Hickman.
The Blues now head to Missouri next weekend for a pair of matches against the University of Washington in St. Louis and DePauw University.
