Women's Tennis Tops Linfield, College of Idaho

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The No. 40 Whitman College women's tennis team concluded a dominant weekend with a pair of impressive 9-0 wins versus Linfield and the College of Idaho on Sunday at the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center.

The day opened with a solid Northwest Conference win that kept the Blues (8-3, 3-0 NWC) at the top of the league standings. 

Whitman cruised through doubles kicked off by an 8-3 win at the two by Jin Yu and Grace Carter. The Whitman team of Arianna Castellanos and Teleya Blunt capped the run with a first doubles win over Sarah Forester and Emma Tuttle, 8-5.

The Blues lost nary a set in completing a perfect match. Wells opened with her second victory of the match, a 6-1, 6-2 straight-set win over Alexis Garner. The match clincher came on the No. 3 court when Ilina Jha took down Kaitlynn Canubida 6-1, 6-3.

The Blues concluded their doubleheader with a third-straight 9-0 win, this time versus the College of Idaho in a non-conference contest with the Yotes.

Several different Blues got a chance to show their metal in the non-conference meeting. Doubles play saw Julia Longpre and Jules Thompson team up for a dominant 8-1 win at the two. Also notching wins were Blunt and Wells at the one, and Carter and Piper Rylander at the three to complete the sweep.

Whitman clinched the win quickly with wins on No. 4 and 6 courts. Carter didn't lose a single game in a 6-0, 6-0 win over Brooke McNeel at the four, then Kaylah Tan sealed the win at the six with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Lauren Osburn.

The Blues head to California this week for a five-match trip beginning at Whittier on Wednesday, March 13 at 4:00 p.m.
