THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — After two tough losses one day ago, the Whitman College men's tennis team came out on the winning end, topping Cal Lutheran 6-2 on Thursday afternoon.
The Blues opened the day by taking two of the three doubles and the lead into singles play. The Blues and Kingsmen split the first two results on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts, but Whitman gained a slight advantage after winning on the No. 3 court with Braeden Thomas and Noah Baker edging Cal Lu's pair 8-6.
The Blues struck first in singles as Alejandro Raffo quickly won at the six over James Truong to put his team up 3-1. The Kingsmen remained in the hunt as Cameron Yang lost a second set tiebreaker in a sweep at the one, but Whitman took the next two matches to claim the win.
Lucas Huang won on the No. 2 court 6-0, 1-6, 6-1 before Luca Viarengo clinched the match at the five. He rallied from a set down to beat Jake Anderson 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
