PASADENA, Calif. - The Whitman College men's tennis team had hoped to gain some momentum heading into their road trip finale, but came up short in a 6-3 loss at Caltech on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues (6-10) stayed alive after winning in doubles, but three quick results in singles went the way of the Beavers who closed out the win.
Caltech won two of the three doubles matches but it was the Whitman pair of Cameron Yang and Lucas Huang who came up with the lone win to keep the Beaver lead at only one point. On the No. 3 court, the duo teamed up to beat Tejas Ram and Andrew Zabelo, 8-6.
Caltech sealed the win with straight-set wins on the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles courts. The Blues came up on the winning side in the remaining two matches. Yang rallied from a set down for his second win of the day, beating Kyle McCandless at first singles 1-6, 6-3, 10-5. Alejandro Raffo delivered a solid straight-set win in a 7-5, 7-5 victory at the six.
Whitman closes out the road trip on Monday, March 18 at Whittier. Start time is set for 4:00 p.m.
