AURORA, Ore. - Day 1 of the Northwest Conference Golf Championship came to a close on Saturday with the Whitman College men's golf team sitting in second place and the women's squad holding strong at third. The Championship is being held at the Langdon Farms Golf Club and hosted by Lewis & Clark.

The men's competition should yield an exciting finish in Sunday's final round. Mason Remington, Alexander Knox, and Linfield's Douglas Bailey and Trevor Price are all tied atop the individual leaderboard after shooting an even par 71. 

Also holding down a spot in the top 10 is Ben Sweet who carded a four over 75 and currently sits in eighth place.

Beatrice Archer and Ellena Jeong led the Day 1 effort for the women's squad. Archer shot a team best eight over 79 and currently sits in fifth, and Jeong placed in eighth after day one after carding an 11 over 82.

With both team and individual titles on the line, Whitman and the rest of the NWC field return on Sunday for the final day of competition. Start time is set for 11:00 a.m.
