AURORA, Ore. - Mason Remington pulled away from the pack in the final round to claim the Northwest Conference Championship individual title and lift the Whitman College men's golf team to the team title and NWC Championship.

The victory over the weekend, along with the overall NWC title which factored in results from both the Fall and Spring Classics, were the first since 1986. The title also gives the Blues the automatic qualifier to next month's NCAA Tournament.

Remington's victory made it a clean sweep in NWC majors after winning both the Fall and Spring Classics and earned him Rookie and Player of the Year honors. Also garnering all-conference honors were Alexander Knox and Ben Sweet who were named to the first team, and Bill Howard who headed up the men's program for the Blues, voted NWC Coach of the Year.

The women's side also saw several all-conference selections as both Cindy Luo and Ellena Jeong were named to the first team.

The men's team won by a full 12 strokes ahead of second place Willamette, in large part due to Remington, Knox and Sweet who finished 1-2-3 on the final individual leaderboard. Remington fired a four under par for the day, breaking away from a four-way tie atop the Day 1 leaderboard and finishing seven strokes better than Knox. Sweet, in the mix after Day 1, carded three strokes better on the final round to finish five over 147.

The women's team had a fantastic showing at the Championship as well. The Blues placed second behind George Fox who has proven to be the annual cream of the crop on the women's side.

Luo and Jeong led the way for the Blues, both finishing in a tie for sixth and garnering first-team all-conference honors in the process. Both took it to another level in the final round as Luo fired 10 strokes better and Jeong improved by seven strokes.

The NCAA will announce its tournament field on Monday, May 6, time TBD.
