Baseball Falls To EOU In Midweek Action

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Sam Mieszkowski-Lapping posted two hits including a double, an RBI and a run scored but it wasn't enough as the Whitman College baseball team fell to Eastern Oregon 8-4 in non-conference action on Tuesday at Borleske Stadium.

Nick Teng added a hit and a run, and Nik Greb posted a hit and an RBI.

Parker Cumberland provided the fireworks for the Mountaineers, doubling and tripling with two RBI and two runs.

The Blues struck first a run in both the first and second innings. Mieszkowski-Lapping doubled home Nathan Wilson who had walked and stole second to put himself in scoring position. Anthony Ahu-Fisher crushed his first collegiate homerun one inning later as the Blues held a 2-0 lead through two innings.

The Mountaineer bats arrived in the third to cut into the lead. Cumberland doubled, then later scored on a Laderos base hit.

Whitman then seemingly began to pull away, scoring runs in the fifth and sixth innings to lead 4-1. Ahu-Fisher was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth, and Greb singled in a run one inning later.

The Mountaineers finally got to the Blues and did so in a big way, putting seven runs on the board in the seventh and assuming command of the game. Cumberland capped the big inning with a two-run triple to help EOU to a four-run lead.

Whitman was unable to muster much offense in the final two innings as EOU walked away with the win.
