WALLA WALLA, Wash. - In a battle of elite conference squads, the Whitman College women's tennis team prevailed with a dominant 6-1 win over Pacific in Northwest Conference action on Sunday at the Bratton Tennis Center.
The convincing win by the Blues (4-2, 3-1 NWC) handed the Boxers (3-1, 3-1 NWC) their first conference loss of the season. Pacific's top player Cassidy Binder found success for the Boxers with wins at first doubles and first singles, but Whitman was the better of the two teams on every other court.
Binder's doubles win came after the Blues had already clinched the doubles point. Sascha Wells and Ilina Jha won 6-2 at the three, then Nana Vang and Arianna Castellanos took care of Sofia Mazzola and Chloe Takahashi at the two by the same score.
Whitman swept all its singles wins to complete the dominant win. Vang and Jin Yu handled their opponents on the No. 3 and No. 4 courts, respectively, before Jha provided the match clinching win. At second singles, she took down Takahashi 6-3, 6-0 to secure the win.
The Blues are on the road next weekend with matches at George Fox and Linfield.
