WALLA WALLA, Wash. - With dominant wins across the board, the Whitman College women's tennis opened its home slate with an impressive 7-0 win over Linfield in Northwest Conference on Sunday at the Bratton Tennis Center.
The Blues (2-1, 1-1 NWC) made quick work of the Wildcats in doubles play, clinching the point with wins on the No. 2 then No. 1 courts. Nana Vang and Sascha Wells struck first with their 6-0 win at the two, then, at the one, the Whitman tandem of Teleya Blunt and Jin Yu topped Emily Redwood and Kaitlynn Canubida 6-1 and the Blues headed to singles play up a point.
Arianna Castellanos and Jules Thompson were equally as dominant with their 6-2 win on the No. 3 court.
Whitman quickly jumped out ahead 3-0 after straight-set singles wins from Yu and Vang. Vang blanked Redwood 6-0, 6-0 at the three, then Yu delivered a 6-1, 6-0 win over Sundi King.
Ilina Jha earned the fourth and match-clinching victory. In another singles match which took less than an hour, she topped Samantha Baltz on the No. 2 court 6-1, 6-1.
The Blues are on the road next Saturday, Feb. 15 with split squad play at Lewis-Clark State and at Whitworth.
